Having attended last night’s Lakers-Celtics game, Danny and Adam boarded a flight early this morning for New Orleans. I’m assuming Justin and Maynard are either already there, or are on their way. Here’s wishing them the best of luck on another mini-tour.
So, on the eve of the latest Tool tour, what do we know? Not much. Frighteningly not much at all, I’d say. First of all, I’m still in the dark as to who will be the support act for the first half dozen shows, other than to say that the band listed on some Tool fan sites is most likely incorrect. I know that at one point in time “Black Math Horseman” appeared to be the support front-runners, but were unable to do it for various reasons. I do, however, have a pretty damn good idea who will take over in Vancouver, BC, and finish the tour support (except, perhaps, for the shows in San Francisco and Sac-town), although, for now, we’ll have to keep you guessing (Note: I should be able to give you lots of info about this band no later than Monday).
As for any different material, well… I did notice a set list hanging on the wall at the loft a couple of weeks ago. On it were a couple of songs that weren’t performed on the last tour (one from “Aenima” and one from “Lateralus”), but I really DON’T know if this means that they’ll be included or not. Perhaps they’ll be worked into the show at some point. I honestly DON’T know. There was also one even older song on the list, but this one had a question mark after it. It’s probably better just to leave it at that – not wanting to spoil anything just in case. In talking to Junior last week at the ‘tator’, there will be a few changes with the lighting configuration, etc., but isn’t that always the case with these prog-metalers. As for the L.A. show(s), I’m still waiting for confirmed on-sale dates, and will post the moment I receive the news.
And finally (for now, at least), stage manager Eric Durett is planning on doing some more writing for the ToolArmy “Notes From The Crew” if at all possible. Maybe I can also persuade Junior to send me some bits and pieces from time to time… along with the some photos until Rynne arrives on the scene with her spiffy new camera.
